Driving Lolita - Swing Me

@drivinglolita

Driving LolitaWith roots ranging from a Drum & Bass producer to Radio 1 DJ and Head Producer for video game DJ Hero, Dee Dhanjal aka D-Code felt the need to take his musical influences of 90's Dance, Rock 'n' Roll and Punk and whisk them together with a new live direction to create the sonically exhilarating Driving Lolita.

Conceived in 2011, Dee has been in the lab obsessively honing the sound of the band and with an album set to drop later this year, they kick things off with their brilliant single 'Swing Me'; a brutal mix of D-Code's hard hitting, razor sharp production fused with Abrar Hafiz's venomous punk-rock guitar riffs sassily sewn together by the furious vocal power of Graziella Affinita, one third of Miss Frank from 2009's X-Factor.

While the high octane single brings an aural energy which is sure to thrill, the music video is a filmic feast which delivers Driving Lolita's primary intention; the emancipation of sex, lust, power and danger. Accompanied by a plethora of remixes covering everything from Drum & Bass to 2-Step Garage, this package is sure to suffice even the most whetted of appetites. With world wide main stage appearances, support from Xfm and BBC 6Music, a live performance at Radio 1's Hackney Weekend and a BBC Maida Vale session under their belt, Driving Lolita are set to take 2014 by storm.

The band celebrate the launch of 'Swing Me' at Proud Camden as part of the new music platform ʻQuality Controlʼ on Friday 14th March 2014.

Release date: 17th March 2014

Interview with Matthew Daniel

English Nu-Soul and Jazz producer. Producer of No Time To Waste featuring Meemee Nelzy from Guadeloupe who sang the lyrics in French and English, the song went on to be featured on DJ BlaQt's Soulfanatic Sisters Suite 1 and air play by DJ June Furlong of Timeless Rhythms, Solar Radio, DJ Alex J of World Lounge Radio. DJ JazzyPete of JazzySoul Radio and DJ Niceness of INNAGrooves UK. "Lose Your Smile" features Trizonna McClendon from Chicago in the States, Matthew wrote the music and lyrics its a sad love song which had success in the indie soul music scene from the likes of DJ KT Smooth, and Bamalovesoul.

"The Betrayal Of An Immortal Day Dreamer" is Matthew's first music release he shows his variety of genre's such as his classical intro to the Butterfly Jazz Re: Work of Jill Scott's "Ain't A Ceiling". Matthew is working on an exciting project with an influential UK label Featuring multi-Grammy nominated Soul artist Lina on the track "SEEDS" and UK Soul vocalist Linda Muriel on the track "Soul Personified", which leads to his album title "The Personification Of Soul".

Tell us about yourself.
I’m currently producing songs for my first album. There are collaborations with some interesting artists and they are working in the music industry creating Soul music. I have worked on this collaborations album for two or three years. I play keyboard and piano, I’m from the UK, I live in a beautiful part of London where I have a studio to make music and record with artists.

It’s all quite new to me I was studying in London for four years and didn’t graduate till 2012. The year after, I lived at home again. I couldn’t find a degree related job though I have paid my dues as a freelance music journalist I spent years of my life way before University perfecting my piano skills at home, listening to jazz, soul, blues, hip hop, R&B, Funk and Gospel. I love old school artists, they are emotional singers and the production is influential and live. I was the one in my family who wanted to be a musician, I’m sure they’d tell you I’m obsessed with music and they are probably true. A lot has gone on over the years. I have used these experiences the good, bad and ugly and turned in into a composition or produce a track.

It’s saved a lot of money on therapy! My jazzy production style is almost like collaboration; with my musical influences music has always been part of my life, I’ve gone through a lot and that can have its setbacks. I am aware that not everybody has my best interests at heart in the music business. I’m with a good label and excited about what they have to offer.

What are your favourite tracks?
I listen to emotional music, so this might be a shock to you, I love My Love Is Your Love, I Have Nothing, I Look To You and I Have Nothing, Whitney Houston. I really love Meshell Ndegeocello album Bitter, Erykah Badu debut album Baduizm and Amy Winehouse debut album Frank.

I like Esther Phillips songs I Haven’t Got Anything Better To Do, Bobby Bland Chains Of Love, Donny Hathaway Make It On Your Own, I have all of his music and Teddy Pendergrass You Can’t Hide From Yourself and Deniece Williams The Paper. These songs are written from the heart to the heart, I can’t live without them.

What does music mean to you?
Music is a life line, it isn’t just a hobbie and that passion that I put into making songs not only is positive it’s a vice. I may not be a singer-performer, a lot of big industry people expect musicians to do it all and this idea is unrealistic. I went through major heart surgery when I was five. I was given a piano when I recovered and I live with issues surrounding mental health music, family and friends, life is a working in progress, my problems might not be yours, I quit while I was in my final years, my degree that is, but I didn’t give up. I did put music on hold to complete my degree, music is my path in my life and that is what music means to me. Production has given me a direction, and a reason to work hard, or be a really annoying perfectionist.

Where does your inspiration come from when creating music?
Usually it comes from a feeling or a song that strikes a chord with me. I don’t always know. Often that happens when I make my favorite songs. I use instruments that compliment each other; I’m working on being a stronger beat maker as far as composition and mixing. I write lyrics and wrote Lose Your Smile lyrics and Attempt Again lyrics. It’s a dream of mine to write and produce with one artist and make a body of work, who knows what will come.

Tell us about the upcoming album and the ideas towards it.
If I am going to be honest my album tracks came to life when I worked with musicians and I want to continue doing it this way. The super star on my album is Zulema Nakinda, she is a producer, singer, songwriter and graphic designer from New Jersey, NY. Zulema’s voice reminds me of old school Mary J Blige. Bernard Rose plays Saxophone Lovers Groove and Under the Stars adds a Jazz sound I really appreciate him recording this way because he wasn’t used to up loading and sending mp3’s! I’ve featured a talented London based singer-songwriter with a rich soul voice on a deep groove track called Soul Personified Linda Muriel and we may have a few more songs to get done, lets see! I can’t give too much away!

What tips & advice do you have for people in the music industry?
Unless your already working with them nobody has your best interests at heart and I say it from experience. If it was not for my Mum & Dad pushing me into studying I would be swept away in more serious issues, make new moves, rather than friends, and keep making music! Just focus on making good music and forget about who said what and really focus on getting the songs you like the most out to the right people even if its not listened to it really takes a lifetime to find yourself as a musician and artist.

What have you got planned for the future?
I have to release my album, I’m not sure what title it will have but I do know it will be released with BBE Music. I really respect what music they release and it feels really surreal to be part of a label that once had legendary producers like DJ Jazzy Jeff and Will.I.Am. Visit www.bbemusic.com for news and info!

Any last words?
I look forward to up dating you with an album release date and thanks for doing an interview with me.

Sied van Riel & Chris Jones - Share This Night

@blackholerec - Black Hole 626-0

‘Share This Night’ is a single taken from Sied’s latest mix compilation ‘Rielism 2’ on which he collaborates with singer/songwriter Chris Jones. The track is one with the signature Sied van Riel sound combined with Chris’ emotional vocals. Bogdan Vix, half of the trance duo Snatt & Vix, had been flown in for the remix and edit.

When you say trance, you say Sied van Riel who has released tracks on the biggest trance labels out there such as Black Hole Recordings, Armada, Spinnin’, Flashover and High Contrast. Sied has done remixes for Armin van Buuren & Ferry Corsten, Cosmic Gate, Offer Nissim and more. In 2008 he became an official Dance 4 Life ambassador, a charity that improves the lives of people with HIV and Aids for which he donated tracks. He has his own radio show called ‘Rielism’. At the end of 2013 Sied he released the second edition of his own compilation series also called Rielism.

Chris Jones is a singer/songwriter from the UK, part of the creation and the vocals of ‘Going Wrong’ by Armin van Buuren and Roger Shah in 2008. Roger is also the reason Chris ended up in the electronic music scene, as he found Chris’ voice intriguing and got in touch. After always having bee a rock lover, Chris learned to appreciate the trance scene as well. Which didn’t withhold him from working together with symphonic metal band Within Temptation on their single Utopia.

LaTosha Brown

LaTosha Brown's moving and powerful voice is featured on the YouTube video of traditional spiritual "I Know I've Been Changed". The video received over 1 million views in two weeks and debuted on YouTube's Top 100 music chart at #78.

In addition to being a soul-stirring singer she is also a community activist in the south. Recently, she received the "Champion of Change" award from the White House for her work in New Orleans as the director of the Gulf Coast Fund. The Gulf Coast Fund is a community-led philanthropy working towards a just and sustainable Gulf Coast region that funds and supports over 200 grassroots organizations. "Champions of Change" is a special series at the White House that profiles Americans from across the country who are doing extraordinary things in their communities to out-innovate, out-educate and out-build the rest of the world.

Ms. Brown has been a performer and cultural artist her entire life. At the age of 18, LaTosha's high school jazz band called Impact, of which she was the vocalist, entered a statewide talent contest sponsored by a local radio station in Mobile, AL. The Grand Prize winners were to open up for The Beach Boys, who at the time were experiencing a career resurgence from their radio hit "Wipe Out" with The Fat Boys, at a major festival in front of 40k fans. The high school jazz band sent in a tape, and much to the chagrin of the professional Alabama music community, won the competition.

LaTosha Brown has been an award-winning community organizer and cultural artist for more than 15 years, but her life's path was set long before it became her official job title. She states, “My first loves are people and music. I am extremely passionate about people and the music that inspires, moves and encourages the human spirit to persevere. It is for that reason why I study, collect, write and perform music from different genres. I am passionate about witnessing the power of music in other cultures around the world.” Ms. Brown has recently released her single So High from her upcoming R&B Soul album, Shades of Pink. She is writing music and working with multi platinum music producers and award winning songwriters Kevin Khao Cates, Jan Smith of Jan Smith Studios, and Haren Griffin of The Haren Griffin Agency.

Sied van Riel ft Adina Butar - 8 Decades

@blackholerec - GOA 001

The first release from GO On Air comes from the seasoned production hand of Sied van Riel. With numerous club smashes under his belt, ‘8 Decades’ - a deeply personal track for the Dutchman - sees him return to his production sound and roots. In a recent interview Van Riel expanded on the signing the track to GO On Air Recordings. “I played Giuseppe the instrumental of ‘8 Decades’ with a view to it being used on (his and Solarstone’s) ‘Pure Trance 2’ compilation and he loved it. Shortly after that he told me about his plans to start Go On Air Recordings and asked me if the track could be the first release on his label. Obviously I said ‘yes’ - its a big honour for me!” From its original instrumental base track, Sied worked with rising Romanian singing star Adina Butar, who’s delivered an astonishing, ethereal vocal atmosphere to ‘8 Decades’. With immediate DJ support from Armin van Buuren on A State Of Trance 647 and electronic music bible MIXMAG scoring the track a whopping 9/10 in their Feb issue (saying it “equalizes melody with uplift, without ever losing its cool”), GO On Air Recordings has come off the blocks fast. Next to the Original Mix, Matt Davey (named by Armin van Buuren as one of his favourite producers of 2012) delivers the perfect remix to top off the first GO On Air!

Haugli & Lizzie Curious - Your Touch

@BlackHoleRec / @LizzieCurious - Songbird 346-0

Your Touch combines the haunting production talents of up & coming producer Haugli, with spine-tingling vocals from Lizzie Curious, to create a truly evocative piece of house music. From the first moment you hear the captivating organ melody and gentle rhodes keyboard, you know this track is going to be something special. Add to this crisp, minimal percussion and warm, expressive lyrics (written & performed by Lizzie) which cannot fail to touch your heart, and you will find yourself heading towards a breakdown of almost ethereal quality - watch out for goosebumps! Meanwhile, on the Tech House remixes, Lizzie Curious showcases her production skills, stepping up the tempo and injecting her Curious groove into proceedings, thanks to the rolling percussion and bouncy bass. An electrifying breakdown propels you towards a thundering crescendo, before stripping back into the undeniable groove, all the while allowing the vocals to shine through. A dub mix is also included for those heads-down-at-6am on the dancefloor moments!

Following a fantastic 2013 (with track support from the likes of Roger Sanchez, Fatboy Slim and Prok & Fitch, Radio One airplay and a Beatport #1, plus shows in New York, the Cayman Islands, Houston, Bahrain, Space Ibiza, Ministry of Sound London and a weekly radio show on Select UK), vocalist/songwriter/producer/DJ Lizzie Curious is set for big things in 2014! Thanks to her inimitable DJ performances, she holds a residency with Kidology in London and also runs her own brand Curiousity Club, encompassing a label and road block clubnights. With past & future releases on labels including Juicy Music, Black Hole, WhoreHouse, Big Fish, Ulybug, Got Skilz, Kidology and Curiousity Club, it's no surprise that this in-demand artist has worked with and been remixed by Robbie Rivera, Cosmic Gate, StoneBridge, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Alex Gaudino, Thomas Gold, George Acosta, the Dolly Rockers, Lazy Rich and the Hoxton Whores, to name but a few. And with 6 releases already confirmed for this year, the future is looking very bright and very busy for the ever-smiling house music maestro!

Haugli's stunning productions caught the ears of StoneBridge in 2013, leading the house music legend to proclaim a new genre of dance music, FjordHaus, had been born! Stoney Boy records then released a stunning 3 track EP from this young Norwegian producer to much critical acclaim. His music is described as 'smooth funky touch with clear NYC inspiration mixed with nordic ice', with his bootlegs of the likes of The Police, Moby and Empire of the Sun gaining him fans from all around the world.

How to Determine the Value of Your Antique Piano

by Eugene Hix.

So you have this beautiful piano you purchased ages ago. After mulling over, you have finally decided to sell it for a good price. But before receiving the amount of money you desired from your musical instrument, it is best to take note of several factors that can affect its value.

Many factors can affect a piano’s worth; the most vital is its condition on the whole. The very first thing you need to do is to seek assistance from a piano technician – he is the person capable of inspecting your instrument as well as providing you a rough estimate of your furniture’s value.

How to Scrutinise the Piano’s Overall Condition
The very first thing a buyer will notice is the exterior part of the piano. Just by looking at it, a buyer would have a hint on its overall quality. Hence, it’s crucial to check this part first and foremost. Any dents or damage palpable enough would likely lessen the instrument’s desirability and most importantly, its value. To make sure everything is in fine fettle, check the following:

Keyboard
Inspect each key on both soft and loud volumes. Everything should be in tune. Check the keyboard’s alignment and take note of any crookedness present along the in between keys and its edges. Do this by looking horizontally at keyboard level and by looking it from above.

Pedals
Check if they are rusted. Try stepping on them to check if they stick or go limp. With proper upkeep, these issues should not be present at all.

Wood Finish
Your piano should not be exposed to direct sunlight otherwise its fine finish and colour will likely fade away faster. Inspect it if it is sun-damaged. Also, check if there are any visible scratches or cracks.

The Piano’s Leg Sturdiness
Make sure the piano’s legs are not wobbly. This is apparently a safety hazard for both the piano and the people who are going to play it. Look for any loose screws and tighten them at once. If you notice the instrument is still unsteady after you have already tightened the screws, then you might need to replace the wood.

Once you are done inspecting the outer part, check the interiors. See to it that these problems are not present:

- Rusted strings
- Loose felt on the hammers
- A disfigured soundboard
- Strings that caused deep splintering grooved in the surrounding wood

Jan/Feb 2014 ramblings

So I haven't written anything personal in a while so here goes.

In The City Of Sylvia - a little Spanish film which is minimal and intriguing following a young man on a journey to find his love.. However the ending was disappointing and had zero closure.. Although in life we don't always get closure, it's worth a look if you are interested in cultural romances.

I see/hear/read far too many news stories that are utterly disgraceful, and I just think why? Really, think! Life is short, live each day and be happy, most importantly let others be happy! I just don't understand.. How on earth does being nasty to others going to make you happy? Power is nothing to be proud of when gained wrongly and I hope every awful person gets a taste of their own medicine. Love one another and spread happiness & smiles.

Music music music.. Beautiful sounds never fail to amaze me. One of my favs of the new year is Il Santo - Everybody with it's summery Italian cultural atmosphere. The lovely and ever so modest Leanne Louise released Save Your Heart, simply gorgeous.. As is My Way Home by Ava Burelle & The Smoking Guns.. these two luscious ladies are my favourite voices and their versatile sounds just take my breath away. The musicians really do come into their own too and should definitely not be overlooked, some sweet violins & gorgeous jazz elements. Another rising star is DJ S.K.T, his productions are toe-tapping and hip-shakingly brilliant, and he has now got his own show on BBC 1Xtra - Tuesdays 1-2am! Also on the radio topic the brand new station to get your ears to is LondonPleasure.FM .. Of course all of these artists are featured on the Mizz blog ;)

Thank you for your continued support with all my music ventures, keep enjoying the music :)

Giuseppe Ottaviani ft Alana Aldea – Heal This Empty Heart

New Year, and another new shade of ‘Magenta’. Following his trail of club floor heat-seekers over the last 8 months - all spawned from his astonishing debut album ‘Magenta’, Giuseppe kicks off 2014 in spirited form. For his next single, Ottaviani has joined forces with fast emerging Australian singer/songwriter chanteuse Alana Aldea. Having previously sung vocals for Cosmic Gate, Max Graham and Aaron Camz’s productions (to name but a few), she now brings her torch-song tones to Giuseppe’s latest. ‘Heal This Empty Heart’ is ready to heal those January blues!

Backed by rainforest FX and raincry harmonies, John O’Callaghan’s remix steals ‘Heal This Empty Heart’ deep into the night, upping its tempo and intensifying its bass. Into the break he brings the strings and allows Alana full song to reign on his remix, which was chosen as Tune Of The Week in episode 648 of Armin van Buuren's radio show A State Of Trance!

Baa Blah Blah by Danny Blaze

@IamDannyBlaze..

Here I am writing something that I don’t know where it is going to take me. I did start writing an argument about why “Baa, baa, black sheep” isn’t offensive, as long as it’s not known about its alleged dark undertones. But halfway though I actually started to sound more offensive, and like I had some hidden agenda which is pretty much some peoples issue with the song, so I scrapped that ideal and decided to write freestyle and see how I get on.

So its now 2014 and social media dominates our daily life. We now live in a time where people care more about what people on twitter think than their own families or friends. You have sat at the dining table during dinner or at a nightclub with a group of friends and sat looking at twitter or Facebook to see what people you have never met are doing at that precise time.

Think about that for a second.. you was out supposedly having fun with friends and your mind was wondering what @JimmyGOTissues was doing, whilst he was sat at home on a Saturday night tweeting every 9 seconds about how much he is living life on the edge of his seat. Yes he is on the edge. He’s on the edge because all he does is sit in that chair tweeting, eating and being judgemental the fat sod.

Now before you think that I have a problem with cake connoisseurs, let me point out that only today I have had 4 generous helpings of cake and I am a “Ride or die” cake fan, so save your suspicious thoughts for “indirect tweets” pretty please.

I guess the point I am making (well trying) is that we don’t seem to appreciate the people we have around us in this time of social media domination, and hark for approval or seek attention from strangers who may “claim” to love you from behind a computer monitor or iPhone 5, but when you strip it all away, they are just that, a stranger.

If you think that this doesn’t apply to you then please by all means go and buy a £10 Nokia phone and use that for a month or ask all of your friends to leave all phones at home on your next night out and see who tells you to “stop being so stupid” or words to that affect, because I feel that I can say with confidence that you will find it easier to make a rope ladder to the moon, than getting 6 or more people to not take a internet ready phone out with them. Don’t take my word for it, suggest it to your friends on the next "Debbie’s broke up from Terry" party when you crazy mob are off on the bus into town to get cheap drinks in Wetherspoons, before going into a nightclub and only buying 3 drinks maximum inside unless they have a buy one get 27 free offer running.

I’ve been Danny Blaze. You have been reading mental illness rants…

Kryoman & Carlo Astuti - Tarantella

Kryoman, Carlo Astuti - Tarantella (Preview)@carloastuti.

EDM legend Kyroman teamed up with fellow DJ and producer Carlo Astuti to create a track that truly challenges the boundary between traditional and future sound. Titled "Tarantella," the track unfolds as a banging high-octane electro version of Albert Pieczonka's 19th century classic. The haunting tune features whirlwind synths and a pummeling break-neck rhythm that is not for the faint of heart. Even the most hard-core revelers will be challenged to keep up with this tornado by two of dance music's most talented minds.
